As an extension of our nature walks and to encourage Littlemiss's thoughts on her experiences, we have started a science journal. It is nothing formal, but is a journal she can draw pictures of and orate her thoughts in. She's not really into it yet, but is more interested in all the colored pencils. I'm hoping over time she begins to enjoy drawing pictures of things from nature and other science related things. I've been working on asking her open-ended questions, like "Tell me about you picture."... "What colors did you use?"... "What did you draw a picture of?" I'm so used to saying "Good job honey! You did it!" This may sound encouraging, but I want Jemma to know that I'm interested in what she thinks about her picture. I don't want her to be as concerned about what I think about her pictures, but what she thinks. We are so trained as a society to be performance oriented, and I'm working on changing this. I'm trying, it's hard.
