Rocking and Rolling

BooBoo's major development this month is his arising mobility. He is rolling everywhere. He even made it around our ottoman the other day, just rolling and scooting. He's popping onto his knees and rocking a bit now too. He seems to be getting more and more active these days, yet is still content most of the time. I've broken down his development and growth below.

Physical development: He is around 21 pounds, the average weight of the one year old. He has two bottom teeth and is definitely working on his top two front teeth.

Motor development: He is grabbing any and every toy or object around him. He rolls and scoots to get closer to objects he wants to hold and explore. This has made diaper changing a challenge because he often gets mad when I flip him onto his back. He's not using the pincher grasp yet, but he will start working on it in a few weeks when we start feeding him finger foods. Food is such a great motivator. He can stand, not pull himself to standing, when we hold his hands. He's sitting really well, and only on occasion falls back. He looks like he may be able to shift from the knees position to sitting in the next few weeks.

Perpetual-cognitive development: He is watching everyone and everything around him. His sister and our two dogs are his favorite entertainment. He reaches for toys that are visible, but out of reach. He puts everything in his mouth.

Speech and language development: He is babbling and making "singing" type sounds. I'm working on his first word being "mama." :)

Personal-social development: He doesn't have a strong fear of strangers, but definitely prefers me. If he needs something and we leave the room he will cry, but otherwise he's pretty chill.

A fun, new activity BooBoo really enjoys is bath time with Littlemiss. He sits in an infant seat that goes in the bath tub and they play and interact. Littlemiss often wants to pour water on his head, which he doesn't care for.

As far as sleeping goes, we started intense sleep training at the beginning of 8 months. He was still waking up every 2-4 hours at night. A 4 hour stretch was considered a good night. The kids were sharing a room, so we moved Littlemiss's bed into the play room. I've been feeding him around 10:30-11 and then not feeding him until 6 am. To help him adjust I held, comforted, and rocked him. He wasn't too fussy just wide awake for 2-3 hours every night for the first 3 nights. Now he can go from 11 to 5 without waking, but still sometimes wakes up around 2:30-3. We are still working on it, but it's getting better and I'm getting MUCH more sleep!

He's working out his core in the baby plank position :)

Not only popping up to his knees and rocking a bit, but popping out the one knee trick!

Ready to lunge out of the chair.

I moved him back and the next pictures of a progression of what he did...

Take 2 with a bunny to distract him so he'll stay in the chair...it didn't work...

Trying to figure out how to get the bunny after landing on it.
