Preschool: Letter G, Gardens, and Creation Story (Part 2)

This week was an extension of the theme and story from last week with some added activities and learning experiences.

Letter: Gg
Theme: Garden
Biblical Story: Creation

I have an abundance of garden themed materials and ideas, so we didn't get to half of them! I have excitedly stored them away for another garden themed week. I have included links on this post if you want to explore the materials we used more. We are continuing in God's Little Explorer's curriculum and gather theme-based printables and ideas off of different websites I will provide links to.

This is what breakfast looked like most mornings this week. I let the kids eat for a bit and then read them the Creation Story. I alternated children's Bible's so it would keep their interest and increase understanding. Then we would sing the songs "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" and the "Creation Song" in the curriculum for God's Little Explorer's. Littlemiss sang the Creation Song all week long.

Each day she wrote the words for whatever day of creation it was on the page to her Creation mini book (Christian Preschool Printables)

We would lay out the days while we sang the Creation Song.

Creation Day 4- Sun, Moon, & Stars:

I had pre-cut shapes to make the sun and moon, and used star stickers. We talked about the shapes being used to make the picture. The crescent moon got torn in half on accident, but she pasted it together.

Creation Day 5- Fish & Birds:

Coloring the water. Loved seeing her use her fine motor skills to draw the wiggly lines for the water.

Used fish stickers and feathers to represent the birds in the air.

Creation Day 6- Animals & People:

I try to use what we have on hand as much as possible, and we have a ton of animals stamps. So she stamped the animals, and I cut out little people to be Adam and Eve.

She was more interested in lining the stamps up than stamping with them.

Creation Day 7- God Rested:

Although she is too young to conceptualize the whole Earth and the relevance to where she is, I introduced her to a globe. She really liked to spin it around and around.

BooBoo joined in on the finger painting the Earth.

All the days of Creation for this week. I had originally had them upstairs by her Learning Center, but I moved them by our kitchen table so she could see them all the time.

Learning Center:

The printables are from Homeschool Creations Garden Preschool Pack.

Singing the "What Do Plants Need" song.

Putting seeds (really beans) on the beginning letter sound.

Writing the beginning letters for gardening words.

Lining up the cabbages in numerical order and then taking turns calling out a number and having the other person find it.

Observing our growing root veggies! So exciting to watch them continue growing from last week.

Letter g craft:

Lined up our Letter Gg objects for review and practice of the g-g-g sound.

Glue, Gold Glitter G. She went heavy with the glue and kept swinging it around and around in circles for the round part of the letter g. Then she just dumped a ton of glitter on it.

I had one of those mini-panic moments when I saw the mound of glitter and quickly grabbed a plate to pour it onto.

Gold Glitter G!

With the extra glitter Littlemiss wrote with her fingers. I encouraged her to write the letter g. She made lots of circles, like the round part of the letter g.

 Someone likes glitter.

Garden Activities:

We got to visit Clay's Dad and Step-mom in Austin this weekend. Lindy (Granny) made Littlemiss a Fairy Garden to keep in her yard for when we visit. It's made from sustainable materials suitable for the outdoors. It is AMAZING! Every little girls dream garden! There are so many fabulous little details, but for the sake of not sharing 20 pics, I took a few of Littlemiss playing.

Toadstool table and chairs. Littlemiss putting tiny rocks in the mini-mugs.

She brought her fairies with us to play at the Fairy Garden.

Lindy's vegetable garden. It is BEAUTIFUL! They've been traveling a lot this year, so it's not in full bloom.

BooBoo taking in the view and exploring the tomato plants.

Squeezing the tiny tomatoes.

I threw together a little garden play for he kids this week. One small bag of organic potting soil, some play gardening toys, a packet with beans in it to play like seeds, fake flowers, plastic pots, and dollar store gardening gloves.

BooBoo trying to smell them. So sweet.

Littlemiss even helped sweep up the mess! Now that makes it all worth it. And you may notice her wearing the same hot pink shirt in a lot of these pics, she dresses herself for the most part these days and wanted to wear it a few times this week :) Love that she is more independent these days!

Check out the other letters of the week we have completed with God's Little Explorer's Curriculum:
